It’s hard to believe August is here already…as much fun as we’re having this summer, it’s time to start thinking about back to school. We’re kicking off our back-to-school themed craft week with these awesome DIY cardboard pencil holders. They are a fast, simple and pretty way to start getting school supplies organized!
What you will need:
Empty toilet paper rolls (you’ll need four rolls per pencil holder)
Wrapping paper or decorative craft paper
Hot glue gun
Step 1: Measure and cut out lengths of wrapping paper to cover each roll. You’ll want an extra inch of paper on each end of the roll, plus an extra half inch in width.
Step 2: Paint each cardboard roll with a layer of Mod Podge.
Step 3: Wrap the rolls in paper, making sure to leave extra on each end plus a half inch around the diameter.
Step 4: Glue down the overlapping paper to seal.
Step 5: Using scissors, cut small slits in the overlapping paper on each end of the roll.
Step 6: Paint the strips with Mod Podge, then gently press each strip into the inside of the cardboard roll. Repeat until you’ve completed four rolls.
Step 7: Using hot glue gun, apply a vertical strip down one side of the first two rolls and press together.
Step 8: Attach two more rolls using the same method.
Step 9: Using the glued rolls as a guide, trace the bottom of your holder onto cardboard with a pencil.
Step 10: Cut out the shape using scissors and use glue gun to attach the pencil holder to the cardboard base.
Step 11: Tie a length of ribbon around all four rolls for a finishing touch!
