What you will need:

Yellow felt

White felt

Felt filler

Thread

Clear fishing wire

Needle

Driftwood

Instructions:

Step 1: Fold the piece of yellow felt in half, or layer two pieces of felt on top of each other.  Cut out several stars of varying sizes.

Step 2: Trace each of  the stars on the filler felt and cut the filler stars out as well. Then place the filler between the two pieces of yellow felt stars.

Step 3: Thread the needle.  We used a thicker white thread so that the stitching would be visible on the stars and clouds!

Step 4: Tie a knot at the end of the thread.

Step 5: We used a blanket stitch to sew the stars/clouds together. Simply begin sewing by threading the needle through the fabric from the top going down.

Step 6: Before pulling the thread all the way through, leave a small loop and thread the needle back through the loop. Now pull the thread tight to complete the stitch.

Step 7: Continue this process until you sew all around the star!

Step 8: Once you finish sewing all the stars and clouds, attach them to the driftwood with the clear fishing wire!

  • I did something similar to this in my daughters room but we made butterflies and fairies. I was a great idea to involve her in the construction of her new room!

  • This is a great idea for a child’s room, even if you don’t use stars and clouds. My child would love doing this with the solar system!!!!
