I hate to bring out a bummer topic - but HY TOP brand from Winco - had 4 cans of fruit - peaches and pineapple and fruit cocktail - cans were rusted on the inside. Black spots (food was fine looking inside) turned red rust all over once the cans were rinsed. One Del Monte crushed pineapple as well. I have to say - it was very hard to see that and worse on me that I ate it before I saw the rinsed cans. Beware.

Well it's been a year since I became a vegetariand and I don't miss it at all! I've gone back and forth on my vegan goal but most of the time I am vegan... with one BIG exception. I will eat some wild caught fish on occasion. I just love it too much to say not to allll the time. Plus when dining out sometimes it's fish or a garden salad and sometimes I'm too hungry for just rabbit food lol.

I don't eat cheese or dairy due to the cholesterol levels and skim milk no longer tastes good at all. Have any of you tried fat free cheese? *shudder*

I still have honey and will buy a few things made with leather...it's a slow process switching over to fully vegan... well I'll never let go of honey.

My opinions are:

Make sure you eat a wide variety of vegetables, beans, nuts and non-GMO soy and try hard to eat all organic. What's the point of all of this if we still  bombard our systems with extra toxins? Also limiting gluten where possible. Gluten can cause a whole mess of crazy issues and usually all that needs changing is limiting the gluten. (I'm still working on that one)

My success:

In a year I have went from declining cholesterol meds (against my doc's demands) to not needing them at all. I'm down to totally normal levels!!! I'm down over 30lbs (exercise helped here and would be more but since my hubby got home I've slacked on gym time lol) and I have a ton of energy! I can actually keep up with my crazy monster boys! With all of this my overall mood and outlook on life has greatly improved and I can say I'm much happier.

MY doc says vegetarians and vegans have 30% less occurance of cancer. That there only increases my will to drive on!

Y'all are rockstars! Good Luck!!!

My mother had heart disease, so one day I looked and hadn't had red meat for 10 months and didn't notice. I was an active cooker then. Since 2001 I had firmly eliminated all but poultry and fish 'til I saw a 'In defense of Animals' video on poultry slaughter houses. I made a vow- it's against all decency. WildSalmon and Alaska fish are safer and fish is somewhat necessary, it seems. Salmon in NW is considered in a more hallowed class so I do eat it periodically for total health.
There is that rare occasion when you are not able to eat like you have chosen for yourself, but if you are aware - then you will keep yourself on track. My daughter at 30 had breast cancer/treatments and myself also the next year had breast cancer/treatments. I am not perfect, but I changed alot of things for the sake of my diet; Water filter , switch to butter (oleo is suspect), stay away from artificial foods, cleaning products and bleach; know your dairy and farm if possible (easy in NW), keep chemicals off you and out of you. Morally, you feel better. It's, for me, for health. And I take a little bread and a liitle juice for Christian communion, as well.

i have been a vegetarian since i was 11. i do not consume ANY meat products, although i am not a total "vegan" (i believe what i am is called Ovo-Lacto Vegetarian, because i still eat products with milk, cheese, and eggs in them).
i do not post as much as i would like to, but i have a blog set up that i put recipes on... recipes of what i create on my own. usually pretty basic and probably not that original ;-)

I have been an on-and-off vegetarian for probably 20 years now, but I am not a good cook! I make the same things over and over and am hoping to find some fun and easy recipes to try!
