I've loved birthdays for as long as I can remember. They have always filled my life with fun. I think it goes back to my mom and how much joy she would have throwing parties. She was an incredible chef and filled our parties with creativity and spirit. So even though we didn't have much money, she made us feel like we had all of the riches in the world.
My favorite movie was Grease. We must have seen it 550 times. Then when Grease 2 came out we got decked out in Pink Lady jackets and shiny stretch pants and went to see the movie. I even added character names to my own name so "Michelle Stephanie" was added to Soleil Moon Frye.
My daughters and their cousins seem to have the same love for Grease. They love getting decked out, playing dress up and singing along, so this year when Poet asked for a Grease birthday, I jumped at the chance.
I love putting together birthday parties, being creative and seeing the happiness it brings to my little ones. Some of the fun and inexpensive things we put together included:
-A dress up station where the kids could try on different Grease inspired costumes. We found clearance costumes online and bought them wholesale to keep the cost down.
-A friend of mine set up a make-up/hair or "beauty" station for the kids and did their make-up and hair
-We set up a couple Polaroid cameras and allowed the kids to take photos of themselves and their friends. They could then decorate plastic picture frames to take home with them.
-We created a little candy bar full of goodies so that kids could compile a little bag of treats to take with them on their way out. This was a good economical party favor and all of the candy was purchased wholesale.
-Some of our friends that are great dancers got together, got decked out in costumes and choreographed a little number to perform. The kids and adults alike loved this entertainment. Then the dancers taught the kids a dance!
Below are some photos of the highlights from the amazing day! Our amazing chef friends (

It was truly a day to be remembered forever!
