Combining nature and art, can't get much better than that! When we decided to do this fun project the other day, we had no idea how successful it would be! By that, I mean how much the kids would enjoy it and how it kept them busy for so long, it was great! We first gave each child a basket to collect their rocks in. Next, we went on a nature walk, looking for our blank canvases, or in this case, rocks. After we found the rocks we wanted to use we took them over to the hose to rinse off the dirt and then dried them off so they were ready to paint. We then took them over to our stations where we had an assortment of acrylic paints (which STAIN so make sure you're wearing clothes you don't mind getting a bit messy) and paintbrushes in a few different sizes. The girls created all kinds of beautiful pictures on rocks both big and small. They gave some away as gifts and used the rest to add a little pizzazz to their backyard. Enjoy! - Annie

Have you ever thought about heading off into blicks and getting that solution that they use to put bugs in plastic. I know "Gross" but I don't know what its called and its the easiest thing I could think of to remember that. Not sure how toxic it is. I actually might start playing with it soon enough and will fill you in but I could totally see this being incorporated in a 3rd dimensional aspect to it.
